It's the shorter commuter flights that typically get the long delays or cancellations, leaving the single runway capacity for the long-haul international flights. ![]() The close proximity of the runways does not provide legal separation between arriving airplanes on instrument approaches (as required in low viz) and as such, SFO goes to a single runway for arrivals (assuming prevailing wind). airport designer putting the runways too close together many years ago. SFO is the worst airport in the UA system for delays, it is very poorly situated as being close to the water, is very prone to fog. ![]() Is wildfire smoke too fine to cause engine issues?
